Music, Art and Synaesthesia

Siobhán Doyle

Siobhán Doyle was born into a musical family and began learning the violin at the age of four with Emma Montenon. After continuing with Maeve Broderick and Gillian Williams, she received a full scholarship to study with Leland Chen at the Royal Northern College of Music where she graduated in 2015 with first class honours. Currently based in London, Siobhán studies part-time with Nurit Stark in Berlin while pursuing an active career as a soloist, chamber musician and orchestral musician across Ireland and the UK.

Siobhán is a multiple award-winner including the Alan Gillespie Ulster Bank Award at the Clandeboye Festival and the Arthur Darley Memorial Prize and the Elsner Memorial Cup at the 2016 ESB Feis Ceoil. Siobhán has performed as soloist with the Dublin Symphony Orchestra, Orlando Chamber Orchestra, Manchester Beethoven Orchestra, the DIT Symphony Orchestra and the Dublin Youth Symphony Orchestra. After a solo performance in the National Concert Hall attended by former president Mary McAleese, Siobhán was personally invited to the Áras an Uachtaráin to give a concert for the president and guests.

Siobhán’s love of chamber music was cultivated during many summers at the West Cork Chamber Music Festival and during her time at the Royal Northern College of Music where she was awarded the Roger Raphael prize for her contribution to chamber music. Siobhán was a co-founder of the Lir String Quartet in 2017. Together they have given recitals in Triskel Arts Centre, St Brendan’s Church in Bantry and at the Clandeboye Music Festival at the invitation of Barry Douglas. She has also appeared at the Ortús Chamber Music Festival, the Cowbridge Music Festival (Wales) and the Aurora Festival (Sweden), and recent performances at the National Concert Hall include the NCH Chamber Music Gathering, the Gwendolyn Masin and Finghin Collins Series and the Musici Ireland 5x5 Summer Lunchtime Series.

Siobhán Doyle is much in demand as a violinist with ensembles throughout Ireland and the UK. In 2018 she toured across Europe, Asia and the United States with the London Symphony Orchestra. Siobhán has appeared as a guest principal player with the RTÉ Concert Orchestra, Manchester Camerata, the Britten Pears Orchestra, Wexford Festival Opera Orchestra and Sinfonia Cymru. She was a member of the European Union Youth Orchestra from 2015-2018. Siobhán has been fortunate to perform with some of the world’s greatest conductors including Bernard Haitink, Sir Simon Rattle, Marin Alsop, Semyon Bychkov, Xian Zhang and Gianandrea Noseda.

Siobhán is kindly supported by Music Network’s Music Capital Scheme, funded by The Department of Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht. Music Network is funded by The Arts Council.
